Free DIY Compost Bins

We've been doing so much with the garden this year and despite a few hiccups here and there it seems to be going well so we decided to start a compost pile. We kicked around buying a composter, making a drum composter and a couple other ideas. I finally settled on just building one.

The FREE part - I made the bins out of old pallets I acquired at work, I asked if I could have a few and they didn't have a problem with that.. I added some old deck boards from another project of resurfacing the deck earlier.

For some free labor I enlisted my 13 y/o daughter who pouted the whole time!




Actually she was a great helper. Hopefully she is learning a couple of skills for when she is all grown up.

We start with an old beat up pallet. (in back)




Then line it with the old deck boards that McKenna cut.




Next we just picked a spot in the yard for it to go.




Ultimately I plan on starting with 3 bins and cycle them through.
